Westmoreland OKs union deal (November 9, 2007)
The Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County and its 213 unionized workers reached a five-year labor pact. The deal, which was ratified last month by rank-and-file members of the Utility Workers of America and approved by the authority this week, calls for raises of between 3 percent and 4 percent in each of the next five years, as well as benefit improvements. DTE workers reject contract (October 11, 2007)
Electrical workers belonging to the Utility Workers Union of America Local 223 have rejected a tentative contract offer from DTE Energy.
Officials of Local 223, which represents more than 4,000 DTE employees, said the electric contract was rejected Oct. 5 by 1,099 to 949. The gas contract was ratified by a vote of 274 to 160. Read more>>
Nuclear Power Primed for Comeback (October 8, 2007)
The nuclear power industry is trying to come back from its own abyss. With natural gas prices volatile and people anxious about climate change, the nuclear power industry is touting its technology as a way to meet the nation's growing energy needs without emitting more greenhouse gases. Entergy, Pilgrim labor union spar over license transfer request (September 29, 2007)
Rather than returning the petition as requested by Entergy, a Massachusetts labor union is asking the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to hang on to the document until its ready to officially receive it. The petition, submitted by Utility Workers Union of America, Local 369, which represents 350 workers at the Pilgrim nuclear power station in Plymouth, Mass., is a request to be heard in an Entergy application to consolidate control of five of its nuclear power plants and transfer them into one holding company.
